Rediscover Value and Interest in Your Life

The feelings that accompany depression can be very confusing and overwhelming. Counseling offers a compassionate space to bring clarity, renew hope, and foster a sense of connection that eases feelings of isolation, in addition to bringing evidence based strategies, such as EMDR therapy, to help heal the root of the depression.

Many people say that they often feel some degree of immediate relief just by beginning the process of counseling and they take pride in having sought depression treatment to learn what’s causing certain feelings. Taking that first step helped them to feel there was someone there assisting them on their journey to healing and providing hope to them for a brighter future.

Depression treatment can empower you to rediscover a sense of purpose, value, and joy in your life, while also helping you understand the underlying causes of your sadness. Through working with a skilled psychotherapist, you can explore how past and present relationships, life experiences, and external stressors may contribute to your feelings of depression.

Therapy provides a safe and supportive environment to examine the thoughts, patterns, and behaviors that may be perpetuating your depression. By gaining insight into these influences, you can start to recognize unhealthy behaviors or coping mechanisms and learn healthier alternatives that promote emotional well-being.  In addition to this, some of our therapies, such as EMDR therapy, can address underlying experiences that have shaped your emotions and can address and resolve those feelings as opposed to addressing them purely through cognitive therapies.

In addition to understanding the root causes of your depression, therapy focuses on equipping you with practical tools and strategies to manage your emotions, navigate challenges, and build resilience. Over time, this process can help you regain confidence, improve your relationships, and develop a more balanced and fulfilling outlook on life.

It can feel overwhelming to try and find the best place to go for depression treatment.  There are many therapists that specialize in this area, but what is most important is that you find the therapist that is the best fit for you.  Experience and method of treatment is important, but the connection you have with your therapist is equally important, so it is recommended that you spend time asking questions and talking with potential therapists to see with whom you feel the most comfortable.

We have expertise in treating depression, and multiple counselors in our practice.  Each of our therapists have many, many years of working with mood disorders and would be happy to talk with you to determine if you feel it is a good fit.  Regardless of what therapist you interview, be sure to ask questions about their training, experience and methods for treating depression.

At Greenwood Counseling Center, we take a compassionate and engaging approach to treating depression, often integrating EMDR therapy with other evidence-based methods. Our therapists prioritize building trust quickly and value the opportunity to connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds, taking the time to understand each person’s unique journey. We believe that a strong therapeutic relationship is a cornerstone of the healing process.

Our goal is to help clients discover and harness their strengths, building the resilience and foundation needed to navigate life’s challenges. By collaborating closely with our clients, we create personalized strategies and solutions tailored to their specific needs, maximizing the progress and relief they experience.

We understand the ups and downs of life and feel deeply honored to support our clients on their path to healing and growth as they work through depression.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a therapy used to help clients resolve traumatic memories in a way that is often more effective than traditional talk therapy.

Sometimes experiences we have impact the way we feel and react to situations often much later in life. We may not even remember those experiences, nor do we necessarily need to. Our approach to depression treatment often incorporates depression coping skills or therapy such as EMDR to facilitate more adaptive responses to outside cues that can trigger sadness, loneliness and feelings of hopelessness. This form of therapy can be remarkable at helping our clients to notice a significant change in feelings that have seemed pervasive and long standing.

The therapists at Greenwood Counseling Center specialize in EMDR and have helped thousands of clients reclaim their lives using this special therapy.  For more information on EMDR therapy, please visit our EMDR therapy page.

Sometimes people experience tough times or loss that can create feelings of sadness that are temporary.  In those cases, relying on a good support system and implementing good self care, may help the sad feelings to improve on their own. However, if your symptoms include prolonged sadness, hopelessness, inability to sleep, sleeping too much, or thoughts of hurting yourself, you should seek help from a qualified mental health professional.
