I have been providing counseling services in the Denver area since 2014, when I moved here from Texas. Although I work with people of all ages, I especially enjoy working with children. I love to use creativity, spontaneity, and humor (a must!) in my sessions. I use several modalities of treatment, including play therapy, behavioral therapy, cognitive-behavior therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused CBT, Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Dialectal Behavioral Therapy, although my primary focus is EMDR therapy.
I moved to Colorado five years ago from Austin, Texas where I lived for 25 years. I greatly enjoy the Colorado climate which is very conducive to my hobby of running. I started running marathons in 1998 and began competing in triathlons shortly thereafter. I competed in several Ironman triathlons with the goal of always putting my family first, even though it meant missing (perceived) important workouts to go to the park or make forts. I am passionate about my family, as well as staying active and healthy to keep up with my two elementary-aged children.
Prior to moving to Colorado, I worked as the Director of Treatment Services in a therapeutic foster care agency in central Texas. I also provided in-home intensive treatment and case management for high risk children and families, as well as emergency and crisis management. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Texas A&M University and a Master’s degree in social work from the University of Texas. I am currently an LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker), a Certified EMDR therapist, and an EMDRIA Approved Consultant-in-Training, assisting with EMDR Trainings held through EMDR Center of the Rockies.
While college gave me some knowledge, nothing prepared me to work with children and families like having my own kids. I continue to learn and grow daily from them. In addition, my clients are constantly teaching me, as I genuinely believe I have much to learn from each person who walks through my door.
