EMDR Therapist
- EMDR
My background
I began my career working abroad in Europe for over a decade in the non-profit sector. This season abroad formed much of who I am and how I view the world, leading me to my second “calling” in life as a counselor. I then returned to the States, desiring more training and graduated from Denver Seminary with an MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2018. I expanded my training beyond a strong clinical base through the Trauma Informed Narrative therapy certificate at the Allender Center in Seattle, as well as being trained in an EMDRIA approved EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) through EMDR of the Rockies in Denver.
Specializing in trauma-informed care and cultural competency, I’ve worked in a variety of settings around the world. I’ve had the opportunity to teach workshops in trauma and resiliency through an international university in Eastern Europe, as well as provided therapy for refugees and asylees from countries such as Ukraine, Afghanistan, Iraq and various parts of Africa.
Prior to my season abroad I also worked in a variety of settings in Denver including a residential treatment program for women and children, provided therapy for refugees, and have worked with a variety of individuals and couples through private practice and contracting since 2018.
My approach to therapy
While I adapt my therapy to my client’s desires and goals, I especially love working with individuals in understanding their personal identity and how their life story has shaped them into who they are today through understanding family of origin issues, attachment, the impact of shame and body image and rooting into their truest identity in connection with the Source of all life. While I primarily work from a trauma informed lens, I utilize Attachment based therapy, Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral therapy, Emotionally Focused Couples therapy, Family Systems, and have a deep love for the power of EMDR to transform the mind and heart after significant trauma. I believe we, as humans, were made to heal and be transformed!
Ultimately, I work collaboratively with you to reach your desired outcome, while also getting to the root of symptoms. I truly believe that you are not defined by your diagnosis, but that symptoms are an indicator of something much deeper needing to be addressed, grieved and transformed. I will gently lead you to build courage and grow into a deeper understanding of your innermost self and truest identity!
My faith in Jesus is the core of my life and how I inhabit the world. When I’m not in the counseling space, I love spending as much time as I can with my husband and daughter. Because of the many years I spent living abroad as an adult, I consider myself a third-culture adult. I love learning about others’ backgrounds, their cultures, and the variety of delightful food the world has to offer! While I’d rather be exploring a new country, I love soaking in the beauty of Colorado with a good hike and hot springs!
