Are you concerned with some of your child’s behaviors? Does your child have difficulty managing strong emotions? Does your child struggle with behavior tantrums, social situations, or following the rules? Do you have a child who struggles to get along with their siblings or peers?
All children are different. Just as children have different strengths, they also differ in their personalities, abilities and learning styles. It can be challenging as a parent to realize that certain parenting techniques that may have worked well with one child are not working so well with another.

FAQ's
At Greenwood Counseling Center, child counseling is a collaborative process with the child and family. Though the therapist will meet with the child on his/her own, the therapist will also meet regularly with the parents and child together. It is important that the parents know and understand the skills that the child is learning, in order to help support the child’s progress at home. When providing child counseling to young children, our therapists will also meet with parents first, either for a session, to discuss their concerns and answer any questions they may have. From that point forward, the therapist may occasionally ask to meet with the parents separately, in order to learn how their parenting style and techniques can be adapted to the unique needs of their child.
The counselors at Greenwood Counseling Center have extensive experience providing child counseling to children ages 6+ and their families. We invite children and their families into a safe and welcoming environment in order to maximize opportunity for growth and learning. We bring empathy, understanding, and a non-judgmental approach to our work with children and families. We understand that today’s families have very busy schedules and we make every effort to offer some convenient after school, evening and weekend appointments.
When providing family counseling, our counselors will meet with the family together to help restore harmony between parents and children. For situations in which the parents have chosen to meet solely with a counselor for parenting coaching, we will work with the parents to teach them effective tools for communicating with their children and providing effective behavior modification.
