Reconnecting Through Couples Counseling in Denver
At Greenwood Counseling Center, we offer the Denver couples counseling you both need to feel heard and validated, work through disagreements, and build a stronger relationship. Our counselors use a variety of strategies to help couples with the following principles:
1. Identify the Underlying Emotions
Defensive communication can easily mask underlying hurt. We help partners find words to identify, understand, and express their true feelings.
2. Ensure Both Partners Are Heard and Validated
By learning to communicate in a way that each partner feels heard and validated, disagreements become an opportunity to build the relationship.
3. Facilitate Teamwork Within the Couple
Learn how to stay on the same team even in times of conflict or disconnection so your relationship grows — not suffers — as life happens.

What if my partner is hesitant to seek couples counseling?Sometimes one partner has concerns about seeking help for fear it won’t work, it will get worse, or that the therapist will take sides. We strive to make sure each partner feels heard. we facilitate teamwork within the couple helping them find the words to express their feelings in a productive way that increases the bond in the relationship, as opposed to using unproductive communication that heightens defenses.
Couples counseling helps partners identify the underlying emotions that are often masked by defensive communication. Nevertheless, in cases where someone’s partner is not willing to come to couples counseling, we will work with just one individual from the partnership to help them adjust their own communication, behavior, and resulting emotions to impact change in the relationship.
